A practical approach to early orthodontic and orthopedic treatment of the growing patient is presented, including the patients treated with Class II and Class III malocclusions as well as patients with arch length discrepancies. The clinical management of many appliances useful in both mixed dentition and early permanent dentition are described in detail, including the acrylic splint expander, the Schwarz appliance, the Herbst appliance, the bionator, FR-II appliance of Frankel, the facial mask, the chin cup, and FR-III appliance of Frankel.
